Construction

Consultants with over twenty years experience in the construction industry as client, consultant and contractor gives us an understanding for the industry, the forces with which it must contend, and the systems that are needed to sustain an effective operation. Contractors have to deal with at least four major interfaces, i.e. client, partners, supply chain and project team. Much of the negotiation at these interfaces is to do with risk, and the associated cost, with the objective of fairness - a notoriously subjective concept.

Industrial infrastructure

Consultants with over twenty years experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of industrial infrastructure in the UK, Ireland and other parts of Europe for the process and manufacturing industries. To re-engineer an existing industrial plant, or create a new facility, is a challenging endeavour in which production needs must be paramount. The infrastructure is there to support the primary objectives, i.e. get product out through the door on the expected day, in the quantity planned, to the quality demanded, and at an affordable cost.

Rail transport

Over fifteen years we have been involved in major rail projects throughout the UK and Ireland from feasibility studies, and reference designs to detailed design and construction. They include heavy rail, underground, and light rail, and involved major tunnel infrastructures. Typically rail projects have many stake-holders, with long time scales, take a lot of money to execute, are often complex, are delivered through highly regulated environments, and what has to emerge at the end is a system that supports the business of profitably and safely transporting the public and freight.

Product development

With the emergence of the service economy we have extended the definition of product development, i.e. an article designed and manufactured for sale, to include the development of a new service, a new business, re-engineering of existing business processes, a change or learning programme, or a government initiative.

Professional services

Professional services is a broad church, and in our context includes accountants, architects, business consultants, engineers, financial specialists, health professionals, legal advisors, project managers, quantity surveyors, stake-holder managers, technical specialists, etc. Typical common characteristics of the services are: represented by people with a specific domain of knowledge; usually “one-off” objective; with a close relationship with the customer, etc.
